Advertising Ideas

Promoting events is hard! Residents are busy people, so they often forget about your events!
For that reason, it is important that you remind them about floor and building activities in as many ways of possible!
Here are some ideas…

First, the obvious…posters are never a bad idea.  Place them in obvious locations such as on the bathroom doors, the hallway doors and on your bulletin board.

Second, for community floors using a dry erase marker to place event information on bathroom mirrors is a must!  It cost you nothing and everyone on your floor will see it!

Third: Emails! Send them out about one week before the event, and then send more on the day before the event or on the day of the event.

Forth: Facebook! Create an event page for all of your floor events! This is much more effective if you choose the message all guests option on the upper right side of the event page! Send two messages, one about 24 hours after you create the page--just reinforce the event information—and another just a few hours before the event takes place.  This way, your residents will have an opportunity to plan on the event ahead of time, and they will have a last minute reminder as well!
This is an example of a floor event page, created for a November floor event on a South Two.

Fifth: Twitter: Don’t forget about Gainey’s Twitter Page, this can give you another chance to share your info with the building! If you wanted to take this further, you could create an account just for your floor !

Sixth: Get personal! One of the most effective methods that you can use in building, is putting personalized invitations on your residents’ doors or sending them invitations through campus mail.  Your RD has a list of all of your girls’ mailbox numbers.

Seventh: The sky is the limit, so get creative! If you are doing a fiesta event, hang cactuses from the ceiling! Use window markers to advertise on the window at the end of the hall!  The more off-the-wall advertising the better!

For our Gainey Clue night (2009) we created a body outline  in our lobby.
This reminded residents of the event in a creative manner.

These espresso cups were placed in the bathroom on South Two to remind residents of the coffee house that was planned for that night.
They were a bit strange, so they stood out!

Eight: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!  Personally tell your girls about the event and ask them if they are planning on attending.  Share your enthusiasm with your girls and make sure that they know that you are excited about the event!  Your enthusiasm will get your girls excited!
