Christmas Eve

 

Describe it...  

We watched the Grinch and ordered pizza.   Our floor mom came.

Set-Up: I went to get the pizza, 5 minutes of other set up (if any).

What would you have done differently? Nothing 

Would You Do This Activity Again?  Yes, the girls liked getting to hang out.  They enjoyed getting to have their floor mom at the activity. They liked hanging out and talking, watching the movie and eating.




Fondue Fun


Describe it...  
We had a chocolate fondue fountain and each set of roommates brought something to dip in the chocolate.

Number that Attended: 20, plus other girls who saw us hanging out.

Set-Up: I set up with the help of two of the girls.  I needed about 30 minutes to melt all of the chocolate before I put it in the chocolate.

What would you have done differently? Nothing

Would You Do This Activity Again?  Yes, the girls had a great time and it was a lot of fun. 


Husband Jars


Describe it...  
Together, each of us decorated a jar to throw change into each time we pray for our future husbands. We decorated them with, love sayings, characteristics he will have, and some of use just made them look right.

Positive Outcomes: They loved doing this project together, all of my girls participated. 

What would you have done differently? Nothing! 

Would You Do This Activity Again?  Yes, it inspires the girls to pray for their future husbands, got them out to spend time with one another, and all of them had a lot of fun. 




Describe it...  
My sister floor RA and I made cinnamon rolls and had orange juice ready for the girls.  We watched August Rush together.

Positive Outcomes: Both floors were not equally represented, but it was good to have the girls come out, watch a movie and hang out.  

What would you have done differently? have attendance be more equal for the two floors, maybe put up more posters and talk to the girls individually. 

Would You Do This Activity Again?  Yes, but I would try to get both floors to attend more. We did not end up with a lot of floor mingling, because only my floor showed up with a few residents from my sister floor. 


Free Half Off Appetizers at Applebee's


Describe it...  
We met and left for Applebee's at 8:45.  We ordered appetizers.  I used floor money to pay for the appetizers, and had previously told the girls that they could purchase a beverage on their own if they wanted one.   We were able to sit and talk.

Positive Outcomes: The girls enjoyed getting treated to some great food.   They really enjoyed having time to hang out and get off campus. 

What would you have done differently?
I might do it earlier in the year so that more girls are free.  Many of them were very busy. 

Would You Do This Activity Again?  Yes, it was a lot of fun,  It was good getting to hang out with them. 


Relay for Life


Describe it...  
The floor participated in Relay for Life! We had a s'more making booth at the event and managed to have girls walking/running all night. 

I had three girls, who worked under me (like co-captains).  They were each in charge of some part of Relay.   One was in charge of raising money before the event, one was in charge of raising money at the event and one was in charge of making sure that we had people for the full 24 hours.

Set-Up: I set up with 7 or 8 of my girls. We started setting up at 4:30pm to be ready by 6pm.

Positive Outcomes: All of the girls had fun.  They were able to raise money for the American Cancer Society. 

What would you have done differently?
Made sure that we had enough girls to walk all night

Bother/Sister Floor Watter Balloon Fight


Describe it...  
We will play a version of capture the flag with a touch of paintball.  We will use water balloons filled with red/blue liquid.  They will probably stain the shirts, but then they will be dyed.  We will also be passing out sharpies so that residents can sign one anothers' shirts.   We will be playing capture the flag, but instead of getting tagged, you will be hit with a water balloon.

Set-Up: More than two hours of balloon filling!

Positive Outcomes: The girls and guys really enjoyed throwing the water balloons at one another. 

What would you have done differently? More people would have attended if the weather were nicer.  So this might have made a better May event. 

Would You Do This Activity Again?  Yes, the residents had a blast. It was fun.  It did require a lot of prep time. 




Movie and Bonfire at the Floor Parent's House


Describe it...  
The floor went to the floor parent's house.  We projected the movie onto the side of the house and watched a movie from the lawn with a bonfire where we made smores.  It made a very last final floor event for us!

What would you have done differently? I would have planned more carefully based on the weather, so that we would not have been rained out.

Home Alone Christmas Party

Describe it...  
Plenty of food, friends and the viewing of Home Alone 2! 
With...Tons of food, chips, dip, 3 flavors of popcorn in a tin, 6 liters of pop!

Would You Do This Activity Again? Yes, Tyler (My brother RA) and I had a lot of fun with set up and the event went over well with the guys & girls.


Bride Wars

Christmas Party

I made cakes with homemade frosting, we did a white elephant exchange and played a game to compete for a Sacred Grounds gift certificate.

Ice Cream Sundaes + Magnets

Describe it...   
We had really good ice cream sundaes with a lot of toppings and then we made magnets like the ones Anna has on her fridge.

Bonfire

We had a bonfire with our sister and brother floors.  We had smores, hot dogs and hung out!

Decorating Vases

Describe it...   

I found directions for making home-made vases in a craft magazine. We used paper mache to cover plastic bottles and then we used craft paint to decorate them.  We also ate brownies!

Decorating Cookies at Floor Mom's

We went to our Floor Mom's house and decorated sugar cookies.

Door Stops and Root Beer Floats

Describe it...  
I had the girls over to my house where we decorated rocks with tissue paper, glitter, ribbon and Mod Podge so that we could have fun door stops, then we had Root Beer floats.

Positive Outcomes: The girls really liked making the rocks, they talked the entire time and now they(the rocks) are outside of the doors.

What would you have done differently? Used rocks that were heavy enough to hold the doors. 

Would You Do This Activity AgainYes, but with a new floor because no one needs two door stops. 




Movie Night with Snacks

Describe it...  
We watched "My Best Friend's Wedding" and had snacks (popcorn with M&Ms and graham crackers with peanut butter)

Positive Outcomes: The girls really liked it.  They had a fun time just watching the movie together.  It helped that it was before fall break because no one really wanted to do homework. 

What would you have done differently? More M&Ms and Knives. 

Would You Do This Activity AgainI would because the girls really liked it even though it was a simple activity.  This was also good for a weekend because it was not super long and it was on campus so girls could come and go. 


Making Rice Bags

Describe it...  
We drove into Jackson together to pick out material for our rice bags.  Then we bought the rice.  Then we went back to our hallway were I taught them how to make rice bags.  I also made up some cookie dough and had popcorn for snacking.

Positive Outcomes: The girls really liked this.  We got to go shopping together and have fun in the store and then it was fun just sitting in the hallway and talked  randomly and listening to music.

Fimo Pens

I taught the girls how to make decorative pens with ballpoint pens + "Fimo" clay.  We also watched American Idol while we made the pens.
